A High School in El Paso, Texas, is faced with the task of finding another way to raise money because the school canceled its "Slave for a Day" fund raising campaign.
According to Riverside High School officials, the title was more menacing than the actual thought behind the idea, but the school wanted to avoid a backlash.
Students would bid on willing participants, with the highest bidder earning himself a volunteer - or slave - for a day to help with everyday tasks. However, officials quickly pulled the idea because of the possible controversy it could stir within the community.
Students reportedly changed the name of the fundraiser from "Rent a Ranger" to the aforementioned title to get more people interested. The school's mascot is known as the Riverside Ranger.
Principal Michael Martinez decided to call off the event entirely and not just rename it. In a statement, he said it was the right thing to do. The students will have to find other means by which to raise money for their Junior class.
