Gas cloud is a huge cloud of gas and dust. There are many in our Galaxy. Most of the gas is hydrogen. These gas clouds are known as nebulae.
We know very little about them, although astronomers have put forward certain theories about them. Stars could be formed from these clouds.
A large gas cloud could form hundreds of stars. Some gas clouds, like Orion, are bright. They contain young stars. Others are dark. Inside these, stars may be forming.
When an old star explodes, gas is thrown out into space. Some of this may form part of another gas cloud. So a new star could be formed from the remains of an old one.
