Weird baby names provides fascinating insight into Scotland’s people IT’LL be a devil to live down – but a boy born in Scotland this year has been named Jesuslovesme.

But he’s not alone in having a mad moniker. Another boy was called Awesome by his clearly impressed parents.

And wee Delight might look the part as a bouncing baby but it’s questionable just how delightful he’ll find his name later, especially when he hits the teenage years.

There were almost 54,000 babies registered in Scotland up until November this year, with more than 7000 different names. Sophie and Jack were the most popular for the fourth year in a row.

More outlandish offerings included Boo-Tiger, Fox and Cosmos for boys and Nirvana, Caledonia, Marvelous and even one wee Man for girls.

Some babies were given just a single letter for a first name, with boys called A, T and J. Other parents were inspired by nature, naming girls Lake, Star, Storm and River.

George MacKenzie, Registrar General for Scotland, said: “The list of favourite baby names provides a fascinating insight into Scotland’s people.

“Jack remains the most popular name for boys for the fourth year in a row. For girls, Sophie is top for a seventh year.”
