Sink or Float

.Have a sink or float center set up in your classroom this summer.

.You will need a basin of water and a box full of things such as paper clips, bottle caps, corks, pieces of fabric, Styrofoam, wood, etc.

.Whatever else you can find.

.The children determine whether the object will sink or float and then test their decision by placing the object in the water.

.Have two empty plastic boxes sitting on this table.

.Label one box “SINK” and the other box “FLOAT.’

.You might wish to label these boxes with pictures of the words meaning rather than the just word.

.After the children experiment with an object, they can then place it in the appropriate box
