Girl Who Wrote about Lack of Female Superheroes to Dc Comics Has Been Turned into One

A frustrated fan girl who wrote to DC Comics to complain about a lack of female superheroes has been turned into one. Rowan Hansen, 11, sent a heartfelt letter to the comic book publisher asking them for more female action figures and films.

“I’m upset because there aren’t very many girl superheroes or movies and comics from DC,” she wrote.” I love your comics, but I would love them a lot more if there were more girls.” Please do something about this. Girls read comics too and they care.”

DC Comics replied saying they are “working hard to create more superhero fun for girls” after her letter was shared by thousands of Twitter users. The American company then followed up on its promise by turning the lifelong comic book fan into a comic superhero. They released some artwork showing a smiling Rowan flying over a field wearing a cape.

“I have never really understood why they’ve had more male superheroes,” Rowan told (Today).”It’s not like the male superheroes are better than the female superheroes, there are just more of them.”

A delighted Rowan said it was “really cool” to receive a response from DC on Twitter, but promised to keep campaigning for better representation of female superheroes. A Wonder Woman film will be released in 2017, while a Super girl TV series is also set to air later this year.
