How Are Chalk Crayons Made?

How Are Chalk Crayons Made? When you write with chalkboard chalk, you are writing with soft white limestone rock. But the limestone rock is first crushed to powder before being shaped into a piece of writing chalk.

Chalk makers mix the powdered chalk with a binding substance that will keep the chalk stick from crumbling. Then they press the moist chalk mixture into the shape of a stick.

After the chalk is shaped, it is baked until it is hard enough to use on a chalkboard. Many “chalk” crayons are made of other materials, but the best chalkboard chalk is about 95 percent real chalk.
