Where Is the Deepest Part of the Ocean?

The deepest part of the ocean that has ever been discovered is in the Pacific Ocean near the island of Guam. This location is actually a deep canyon known as the “Marianas Trench.”

If you placed Mount Everest at the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the peak would still be 2,133 meters (7,000 feet) below sea level.

Its lowest explored point is over 36,201 feet (11,034 meters) deep-that is nearly seven miles (11.3 kilometers) below the ocean’s surface.

If you were to drop a steel ball into the water above this spot, it would take the ball about an hour to reach the bottom!

Of course, the Pacific Ocean is not nearly this deep all over. Its average depth is about 14,000 (4,200 meters.)
