Why Do Cobras Dance When They Hear Music?

Why Do Cobras Dance When They Hear Music?

Why Do Cobras Dance When They Hear Music? Snake charmers actually exist in India. The snake charmer plays his flute while the deadly cobra sways slowly back and forth. The cobra isn’t dancing to the music.

Like all snakes, it is deaf, although they are able to sense sound, they lack the outer ear that would enable them to hear the music. They follow the flute that the “snake charmer” holds with their hands.

When the cobra is “charmed,” it is simply holding itself on guard as it follows the snake charmer’s swaying motions. The charmer typically sits out of biting range and the snake is sluggish and reluctant to attack anyway.

The charmer knows a cobra strikes more slowly than other snakes do. Yet few trust themselves to dodge the deadly fangs should the cobra ever strike. Snake charmers usually pull out a cobra’s fangs or sew its mouth closed.
