Why Do People Get Wrinkles?

Wrinkles are due mainly to the loss of elasticity of the skin. When people are young, the skin stretches tightly over the muscles of the face, much like a rubber mask. As we grow older, our skin loses some of its stretch. Faces tend to shrink as some of the fat disappears from under the skin.

Because of this loss of elasticity, the skin no longer fits as tightly. The skin begins to sag, causing wrinkles to appear. Wrinkles can also be caused by staying in the sun for long periods of time. Too much sun dries out the oils in the skin, causing it to become dry.

As people age, it’s normal to get wrinkles. And a person who has spent a lot of time in the sun, at tanning salons, or smoking cigarettes might have a lot of them. Eventually, however, everyone will have at least a few wrinkles. It’s a natural part of the aging process.
