What Does Making a Beeline Mean?

What Does Making a Beeline Mean?

Have you ever made a “beeline” for home? When we take the straightest route to a place, we sometimes say ”making a beeline!”

This old expression comes from the belief that the honeybee returns to its hive in a direct line. On its outward flight, a bee flies from flower to flower to collect the sweet nectar it makes into honey. After the bee has collected a full load of food, it takes the shortest route, a beeline, to its hive.

Since a pound of honey requires at least 20,000 bee-trips to the field, it’s no wonder that bees make a “beeline” back to the hive!”
