What Is the Fastest Animal? If all the animals in the world were to enter a race, the winner would be a bird called the peregrine falcon. This bird can fly at a speed of more than 242 miles an hour.

The peregrine falcon is the fastest aerial animal, in flight, fastest bird, and the overall fastest member of the animal kingdom. Though it is not fast enough in horizontal level flight, its hunting dive, the stoop, it soars to a great height, then dives steeply at speeds of over 200 mph.

The fastest land animal is the cheetah which has a recorded speed of 109.4–120.7 km/h (68.0–75.0 mph). The cheetah can accelerate from 0 to 96.6 km/h (60.0 mph) in under three seconds, though endurance is limited.

The fastest animal in the sea is the black marlin, which has a recorded speed of 130 km/h (80 mph). A hooked black marlin has been recorded stripping line off a fishing reel at 120 feet per second (82 mph). A girl or boy 10 years old can run about 12 miles per hour.
