Apple Salad

Cooking experiences are also a wonderful language arts experience. While the children are cooking they are also learning a vast amount of new vocabulary and basic concepts such as hot/cold, wet/dry, sweet/sour, full/empty, etc.

.The possibilities for enriching vocabulary while cooking are endless.

.Here is an easy and fun recipe. The recipe does call for chopping and coring apples.

.You will have to supervise closely and judge how able your children are in preforming these tasks.

.You will Need: 6 or 7 large apples; 1 small can chunk pineapple; 1/2 pound grapes; 1/2 cup miniature marshmallows; 1/4 mayonnaise; 1/4 cup sugar.

.What You Do:

.Core apples and chop into 1/2 inch chunks.

.Drain pineapple.

.Add 1/4 cup pineapple juice and the sugar to the mayonnaise.

.Cut grapes in two.

.Add miniature marshmallows.

.Mix all the ingredients together and serve to the class.
